Adult affiliate programs: An introduction
June 6th, 2007 by admin
So you want to make money in the adult business and you are wondering how to do it? An option might be to start from scratch: you could hire models to shoot your own porn videos, post them of your website and try to convince porn surfers to pay to watch them. Needless to say, this way requires important investments in terms of money, time and effort. But do not despair, there is an easier way: adult affiliate programs
What are adult affiliate programs?
There are thousands of adult websites trying to sell their own porn content to surfers. Almost all of them rely on affiliate marketing to make these sales. How does affiliate marketing work? A webmaster, called an affiliate, sends traffic to a paying adult website, called a sponsor. In exchange, the sponsor pays a commission to the affiliate for sales made as a result of the affiliate’s traffic. Each affiliate has a different ID that is used when the affiliate links to the sponsor: the sponsor then knows which affiliate to credit for each sale.
To participate in an adult affiliate program, you do not need to shoot your own videos, to design your own ad banners or to make arrangements with credit card processors, you simply need the ability to send traffic to sponsors. This is why over 99 percent of adult webmasters use adult affiliate programs to make money in the adult business.
Adult Affiliate Compensation
Most adult sponsors sell monthly subscriptions, though there are other business models (pay-per view, DVD rentals, etc.) Adult affiliate programs genrally offer three different types of compensation: pay-per-signup, revshare and webmaster referrals.
Pay-per-signup: With pay-per-signup arrangements, the sponsor will pay the affiliate a fixed commission when someone who has clicked on the affiliate link purchases something from the sponsor. For monthly subscriptions, the pay-per-signup commission is typically $25-$35. Most adult affiliate programs pay this commission even if the surfer cancels his subscription during the trial period.
Revshare: Revshare or revenue share programs allow affiliates to receive a percentage of the sales generated by surfers they send to the sponsor. Adult affiliate programs typically give a revshare of 50%-60%. This means that, if you have a revshare of 60% and your links generate $1000 of sales at the sponsor, you will receive a commission of $600. Revshare affiliate programs are especially profitable when selling monthly subscriptions: if your surfers keep renewing their subscriptions, then you receive not only a revshare of the initial signup, but also a revshare of each monthly re-bill. Participating in revshare affiliate programs is thus an interesting long-term proposition.
Webmaster referrals: Affiliates can earn webmaster referrals when they refer other webmasters to a sponsor. Some programs offer a flat fee for each active webmaster signup, which means the referral is paid only if the referred webmaster makes a minimum amount of sales. Other programs pay a referral commission that is equal to a percentage of the commissions received by referred webmasters. This referral commission is typically equal to 5%-10% is most adult affiliate programs. For example, if your referral commission is equal to 10% and your referred webmasters receive $1000 in commissions, then you receive an additional $100 in referrals. Some people think that they will earn less if they are a referred webmaster, but this isn’t true. Referrals are paid by the sponsor, not by the referred webmaster.
